- The Horror Movies Hollywood Doesnt Want You To See
None of the horror movies on this list are for the faint of heart. The average film viewer would consider most of the movies pretty disgusting. The horror movies listed are not the best or the scariest horror... - New Movie Relases To Avoid
Interested in new movie releases? This is your perfect guide to movies that will be releases in the fall and winter. The list of movies profiles new releases that movie goers shoud avoid at all costs. - Horror Movies You May Have Missed
These are some movies that you may have missed in the theaters or on the dvd shelf. Some may have missed them because they were too young at the time of release. Some may have missed them because of limited...
Stab. Chainsaw. Torture. Blood and Guts. These are the basic essentials for a horror film in the 2000s. We've all heard of Saw (2004) and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) franchises. They all feature many of the same character types, plot, and cliché killings. I've seen some horror movies recently that I would really consider to be some of the worst movies in the past ten years. There has got to be some fresh and innovative horror films out there that you haven't seen, right? Correct.
I will list five horror films that have flown under the radar since the year 2000 that need to be seen. You most likely haven't seen or heard of these movies, but now is the time to expand your film knowledge. Enjoy!
5) The Suicide Club (Sion Sono) 2001
- Some may say that this doesn't belong in the horror genre, but just give it a watch and you'll understand what I mean. The title is self explanatory, but what is shown on screen is hard to comprehend. This is a crazy film that you will be thinking about for days after you watch it.
Scene to watch for: Opening train scene.
4) The Devil's Backbone (Guillermo del Toro) 2001
- This little gem helped solidify del Toro in the film industry. The Devil's Backbone relies completely on atmosphere and tension for scares instead of blood and guts. This beautiful and poetic film is not your traditional ghost story.
Scene to watch for: Ending voiceover.
3) High Tension (Alexandre Aja) 2003
- This is what slasher films are supposed to be like; as long as you can get past the horrible "twist" that is thrown at you in the end. But let's put that aside and focus on good parts. High Tension is one of the few films to successfully combine gore, violence, and psychological suspense. Once the action starts, it really does not stop. Plus, the film features a heroine who can outsmart and sometimes outrun a deranged and slow walking killer.
Scene to watch for: Buzz saw meets the windshield of a car...
2) [REC] (James Balaguero Paco Plaza) 2007
- Some of you have probably seen the American version of this, called Quarantine . If you have not seen Quarantine, I suggest you avoid it and pick up the original, [REC] . Shot entirely from a cameraman's (we never actually see the character on screen) point of view, the film places you in the middle of the action. The less you know about this film, the better, so I will leave it at that. Just watch the film.
Scene to watch for: The Attic Scene
1) Session 9 (Brad Anderson) 2001
- Session 9 is quite different from most of the other films on this list. This film is a complete psychological thriller. It mostly takes place in a former mental hospital and Anderson uses this setting to his advantage. Some may call the film slow, but the build up to the utterly shocking and disturbing ending is well worth the wait.
Scene to watch for: The ending

I included Session 9 in one of my hubs too. Great movie!
I'll link this hub to one of mine.
You're right I haven't heard of those. thanks for bringing them up. I love horror movies and so bored of the ones I have seen over and over again. I need fresh ones and will definitely look these up, possibly rent them from blockbuster.com. Thanks again! Great hub!
Great Blog. I couldnt have said it better myself. I mean how many times do we have to see the tired cliche motif in horror films? Session 9 is awesome. High Tension, not so much. I mean it had the makings of a great horror film but I just could not get over the sorry twist at the end...sorry. But all of these films (at least the ones I've seen) are great! And now thanks to you I'm gonna check out the ones I haven't, thanks kid!
I've added all these to Queue, except for (REC). My sister just bought it so I'll be borrowing it from her ASAP. Great article!
Session 9 is great. I heard of some of the others but, never knew I should watch them. I love Guillermo del Toro's work so I will definitely check out The Devil's Backbone.
I enjoyed reading your comments and I'm going to switch over to Netflix to put them in my queue.
I have to recommend Let Sleeping Corpses Lie. An excellent and nearly forgotten 1974 Zombie film that many horror fans would appreciate.
Thanks for this< i have a few horror movie hubs myself so I love learning about new Horror films to add to my list!
I've heard of all of these. I'm calling you out on your title being a LIE. Just playin'.
I really enjoyed the Suicide Club a lot, I think it does a good job of making a horror movie about the unknowable. Too bad it got too dense and confusing when they revisted the concept.
dude ive seen all these movies and loved them all great hub getting the word out on some very good movies that most people may never see
I was so engrossed while watching Session 9 that I could smell the bowels of the building .That musty mildewy wet dark basement was real to me
High Tension & Session 9 are two crazy movies. Those types of thiller/horror movies are the ones that scare me the most.
Mainly due to the fact that they deal with mental illness and that scares me more than some guy from my dreams chasing me around with knifes on his glove.
I have seen high tension. I am alway looking for new and clever horror films. I hate over the top gore. This was a good hub and can't wait to check out these films.
The only one of these I actually managed to see was high tension. It was rather disturbing to say the least. I will check these others out though. Thanks for posting them.
I've seen all of these movies, they're not really that obscure, but good list anyways.
I've seen all of these! They all rock though! Cheers!

Sounds like some films that I should make time to see. Oh wait, I'm still unemployed. I'm so tired of slasher, blood and guts in horror films. It's good to know that there is more out there. I'll just have to wait until Ang goes to bed or she will have nightmares for months.
